Toss It In The Dumpster.

Any Dumpster Works

As long as folks who are struggling to get or stay sober keep that drink on the top shelf of their mind – rather than tossing it in the dumpster where it belongs – it’s going to stare them right back in the face.

Getting and staying sober doesn’t have to be such a struggle. But it will continue to be as long as – even if only at a very great distance – alcohol is still an option. This seems to be the hardest thing to grasp. And while I understand it because I’ve been there – now that I’ve tossed the option of drinking into the trash – it really is that simple. I don’t need a drink staring me down in my own mind, so I remove it and by doing that – I win. I exert my power – my will – and dismiss it.

Everybody can do this. They just don’t know they can.

Some folks like to credit God for helping them stay sober. But I don’t think these folks are doing themselves any favors here. They’re denying their own power. We all have free will. One way alcoholics can exercise it is to choose not to drink and then support that choice with their behavior. A lot of folks don’t seem to get this and I don’t know why. I just don’t believe that God’s not going to be miffed if s/he -IT- doesn’t get the credit for our sobriety. God didn’t quit drinking. God probably doesn’t have a problem with drinking alcohol in the first place.

The credit for getting and staying sober belongs solely with us. ๐Ÿ™‚ And I’d like to think that God might smile on us for our successes.
